About Laura

Laura Fisher is a unique poet, writer and performer who is well known on the Naarm/Melbourne spoken word scene for convening Radio Laria Poetry and MCing Girls on Key. Through both these poetry nights, Laura has been a keen advocate and promoter for women and women-identifying poets. She has been the feature for various Naarm spoken word gigs and at Dramatis Personae she was even known to channel the ghost of Emily Bronte.

Laura has been published in Dan Poets, and in the online magazine Realmwalker. In in 2020 she was short-listed for the Eyelands International Short Story Contest. She originally hails from a small town near London and at the age of nineteen she left home to study English Literature and Religious Studies at Manchester University. Nothing came from her study of religion until she wrote her play Why Not Believe in Everything?; a piece that seeks to show how easy (or how difficult) it is to consolidate the Biblical story of creation with evolution theory. Why Not Believe in Everything? was in the Cracked Actors Summer Readings where Laura was awarded Best Production and Producer (2022); and in Melbourne Fringe, where the play received a 4-star review on Arts Hub (2024).
